Write to geocode-sheets@engranalab.com. Include the formula you are using, the message you see (not the addresses, unless they are public), and your language setting. We read everything; this is a small project, so replies can take a few days. Short help inEspañol, Português, Français and Deutsch.

Common problems

"Daily geocoding quota reached"

Google limits the Maps service of Apps Script to about 1,000 geocodes a day on personal accounts and 10,000 on Google Workspace, and the count resets at midnight Pacific Time. Resume the sidebar tomorrow, use another account, or add your own key (Pro). How to spend less quota.

"Address not found"

Check the spelling and add the city and country; the country argument of GEOCODE helps with ambiguous names. A cell with only a street name often matches nothing.

The point is in the wrong place

Look at the precision. center and approximate mean Google only matched a town or a region, and partial means it matched part of the address. Add the postcode or the country and try again; remove the cell and run the sidebar again so the cache does not return the old result.

The formula shows a parse error (Spanish or European settings)

If the spreadsheet's locale is Spain, France, Germany, Portugal or similar, Google Sheets separates function arguments with a semicolon;, not a comma: =GEOCODE(A2; "ES"; "lat"). You can check or change the locale under File → Settings.

The cell says "Continue with Geocode a column"

A formula stops at about 25 seconds, before Google's 30 second limit. Run Geocode a column on that range: it saves what it finds and the formulas then answer from the cache.

The sidebar does not load or stays empty

This happens when you are signed in to several Google accounts in the same browser. Use your default (first) Google account, or open the sheet in a private window where you are signed in to a single account.

The cell shows #NAME?

The add-on is not installed or not enabled for you. Install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace and reload the sheet. If a sheet was shared with you, you need the add-on installed too to see the results of its formulas.

The map is blank or the tiles do not load

The map needs to reach OpenStreetMap and cdnjs from your browser. A blocker or a company firewall can stop them. Try another network or turn the blocker off for this page.

A shared map says it does not exist or has expired

Maps expire after the 30, 90 or 180 days chosen by their owner, or the owner deleted them. Ask for a new link.

Report a bug or suggest something

Send an email with what you expected and what happened. For a bug, the smallest example that fails is the most useful: one address and the formula. If it is a feature you would pay for, join the free Pro beta and tell us in the form.

Privacy and data requests

See the privacy policy. To exercise your rights, write to the address listed there. To delete a shared map early, use the add-on; the owner can delete it at any time.
